The process
A plate takes about three weeks from a bag of clay to your table. Most of that time it is just drying on a shelf, which is the part we never rush.
Clay is kneaded to push out the air, then centred and pulled up on the wheel.
When it is leather hard we carve the foot ring, then let it dry slowly under cloth.
A first firing makes it porous and strong. Then each piece is dipped by hand.
A long, hot second firing melts the glaze to glass. We open the kiln the next morning.
Classes
Small groups of six, aprons and tools included. Everything you make is fired and glazed for you to take home.
Four weeks. Centre, throw and trim your first cylinders and bowls.
One morning. Pinch, coil and slab a small set of plates.
Bring a bisque piece, or use ours. Dip, layer and test our house glazes.
Two people, one wheel, a pot of tea. Make a pair of cups.
Ages 7 to 12. Animals, bowls and a lot of mess, all washed off by lunch.
A note on the shop
We make in small batches, so the online shop opens on the first Sunday of each month and closes when the shelves are empty. Seconds with tiny flaws live on the studio table, at a kinder price.
